Friday 21 April

This Sussex Chamber Ensemble comprises Maeve Jenkinson (violin) – leader and Director of the Corelli Ensemble, Sarah Davison (cello) and Rachel Fryer (piano).

The will be making their Brighton debut performing Haydn’s effervescent “Gypsy Rondo” trio along with the piano trio by Clara Schumann. Clara Schumann was one of the few wom-en composers of the 19th Century, she was also a famous concert pianist and wife of Robert Schumann. Her trio is suffused with gentle yearning romanticism, a perfect foil for Shosta-kovich’s 1st piano trio, an early work with rhythmic elements of the Shostakovich to come, but also moments of deep romanticism. The concert concludes with Piazzolla’s fun and en-ergetic Libertango.

Maeve Jenkinson, violin, is known as a high level performer and teacher. She is musical di-rector of the Corelli Ensemble, plays regularly with the London Philharmonic, and is in de-mand as a chamber ensemble player. Sarah is a versatile performer, doing regular session work for major labels including Sony and Universal. She enjoys working as an orchestral and chamber musician and has appeared at the Brits and Royal Variety Performance, as well as branching out into jazz and pop with artist Claire Martin OBE. Rachel is a Senior Piano Tutor at the East Sussex Academy of Music and is in demand across the Sussex area as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician.
